Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 6 cups water
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Soak the navy beans in water overnight.
- Drain and rinse the beans.
- In a large pot, combine beans and 6 cups of water. Boil for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, mustard, onion, and bacon.
- Add the cooked beans to the mixture and stir well.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Bake for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
