Baked Beans 4th of July Classic — Homemade That Steal Hearts

A classic homemade recipe for baked beans, perfect for your 4th of July celebration.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the navy beans in water overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the beans.
  3. In a large pot, combine beans and 6 cups of water. Boil for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, mustard, onion, and bacon.
  6. Add the cooked beans to the mixture and stir well.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  8. Bake for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
