Baked Beans 4th of July Classic — Homemade for Summer Joy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 pound bacon, diced

Instructions

  1. Soak the beans in water overnight.
  2. Drain the beans and place them in a pot with fresh water.
  3. Bring to a boil, then simmer until tender, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked beans, brown sugar, ketchup, barbecue sauce, onion, mustard, salt, pepper, and bacon.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  7. Bake for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Feel free to add other spices for extra flavor.
  • These beans can be made a day ahead and reheated.
