Ingredients

- 2 cups navy beans, soaked overnight
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Drain and rinse the soaked beans.
- In a large pot, combine beans, water, and onion. Boil for 30 minutes.
- Drain the beans and return them to the pot.
- Add brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Cover and bake for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the cover for the last 30 minutes to thicken the sauce.
Notes
- For a smoky flavor, add diced bacon or ham.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
