Cherry Pie 4th of July Classic — Homemade Bliss Awaits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 package pie crusts (2 crusts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  3. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
  4. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
  5. Pour the cherry mixture into the pie crust.
  6. Dot the filling with butter.
  7. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges and cut slits for steam.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  9. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen cherries.
  • Adjust sugar based on the tartness of the cherries.
  • Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
