Low Country Boil July: 5 Steps to Joyful Summer Feasting

A traditional Southern dish featuring shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes boiled together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of shrimp, deveined
  • 1 pound of smoked sausage, sliced
  • 4 ears of corn, cut into halves
  • 2 pounds of small red potatoes
  • 1/4 cup of Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • Water, enough to fill the pot
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  2. Add Old Bay seasoning and salt to the boiling water.
  3. Add potatoes and cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Add sausage and corn, and cook for another 10 minutes.
  5. Add shrimp and cook until they turn pink, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Drain the pot and transfer the mixture to a serving platter.
  7. Squeeze lemon over the top before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  • Great for outdoor gatherings and celebrations.
